For everybody’s wellbeing and to ensure a good relationship with Camp Kinkora, here are the rules of behavior that will apply at the leadership retreat. Breaking these basic rules can get you expelled. By registering to Toboggan, you are agreeing to respect these rules.
- Mutual respect is our core value. Respect others and yourself. Don’t make judgments and keep an open mind.
- Discrimination and prejudices will not be tolerated, both in terms of language and behaviour. Respect each individual, no matter their gender identity, their cultural or ethnic identity, their values or religion, their physical or social condition, their appearance, their language, or the sexual orientation to which they identify.
- Violence, threats, and bullying will not be tolerated.
- Possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs will not be tolerated during the retreat.
- Sexual harassment and undesired physical contacts will not be tolerated. Respect each individual’s personal space, and don’t insist if your advances are rejected – “yes” means yes, “no” means no, and in doubt, ask permission.
- Respect the collective space that you are sharing with others. There will be between 40 and 50 of us sharing limited space for four days. Don’t make too much noise; be aware that some people are not comfortable with some public displays of affection; etc. If someone asks you to stop behaving in a certain way, respect their request.
- Respect curfew hours. You can chat until dawn, but if someone in your room wants to sleep, turn off the lights, and be quiet.
- Your participation to workshops and activities is mandatory.
- You must participate to chores like cleaning and cooking. See this as an opportunity to make new friends; we will establish a schedule for a chores rotation once we get there.
- Don’t smoke inside buildings. This is a rule from Camp Kinkora and your collaboration on this will be greatly appreciated.
- Respect the site, and leave nothing but your footprints. Throw your garbage away in the proper spaces, and don’t leave any graffiti.
- Pets are forbidden on the site by Camp Kinkora. Leave your friend the rat at home.
- You are responsible for your personal belongings, and we will not be accountable for damaged, lost or stolen items. Think twice before bringing to the retreat things that you don’t want to lose (jewelry, mp3 player, cellphone, laptop, etc.).
- Most importantly, have fun! We want Toboggan to be an unforgettable experience!
Breaking one of these rules can get you expelled from the retreat. Should this happen, we will send you home on the next bus, and we will keep your deposit.
